Strathglass has long been recognised as an ideal location for the sporting enthusaist. We have a lot to offer those who enjoy the great outdoors.

Shinty

Shinty, one of the oldest games in the world is played on most Saturday afternoons, throughout the summer months. Cannich is home to Strathglass Shinty Club, the oldest club in the Scotland. The rules of the modern game were introduced in 1880 at the Glen Affric Hotel by Captain Archibald Chisholm, who went on to become the first chairman of the Camanachd Association. This led to the first match in modern Shinty history between Strathglass and Glen Urquhart being played at Inverness. Strathglass are currently enjoying a successful period in their history with a wide membership base starting from the youngest in our community.


Golf

Aigas golf course (www.aigas-holidays.co.uk) nestles spectacularly between the Aigas forest and the river Beauly - one of Scotland's famous Salmon rivers. Visitors are most welcome to play this challenging 9 hole course at almost any time. Booking is advisable for groups and at weekends. Club and trolley hire are available.

A coffee shop is open for light refreshments during the summer months. Aigas Holiday cottages are available a few minutes walk from the first tee and generous discounts on green fees are available to their holiday clients. Within a radius of 40 miles of Aigas a further 25 courses can be enjoyed. These include some of the world's greatest links courses along with their wonderful beaches, Royal Dornoch, Nairn, Brora and Tain the ones that spring to mind. Fishing

The rivers Glass and Farrar along with the many local hill lochs offer excellent sport for either the casual or serious fisher. Please remember that all fishing is private and licences are required which help to pay for the regular stocking of all fishing facilities. Boats and Gillies are also available for hire. Cycling

The main forest roads are open to mountain bike enthusiasts thus giving plenty of opportunity for off road riding. Bike hire is available locally, for those unable to bring their own bikes. Fully professional guided services are available from Natural High Guiding.
